Joseph endicott (1784–1867) and Rebecca Casey (1784-1851)Descendants of Joseph Endicott and Rebecca Casey are fortunate that a lot of research material exist and is available on these Endicott ancestors. The primary sources are Mabel Nesbit McLaughlin’s The Endicott Family and the Endicott Cemetery near Poseyville on Joe Seibert’s farm in Robb Township, Posey County, IN. The Endicott Family can be viewed in its entirety on the JEFA, Inc. web site.

The Endicott Cemetery has been carefully documented. This cemetery has also been well preserved by members descending from these Endicott ancestors. Both citations are shown elsewhere in this Newsletter. Joseph Endicott was the eldest son of Moses Endicott (1759-1834) and Martha Hill (____-aft 1830) and was born on December 6, 1784 in North Carolina. On June 20, 1805 he married Rebecca Casey in Harrison County, KY. [1] She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Fraser Casey.Joseph Endicott served in the War of 1812. He enlisted in Col. Richard Johnson’s Regiment, Mounted Kentucky Infantry with Capt. James Coleman’s Company. He was at the Battle of Thames on October 5, 1813. The Report of the Adjutant General, Kentucky – Soldiers of the War of 1812 shows that on the Roll of Captain James Coleman’s Company, Kentucky Mounted Infantry is Joseph Endicott, Private - August 15, 1813 to November 19, 1813 [4]

The Joseph Endicott family left Kentucky in 1815 and became part of the Migration of 44 who settled in Posey County, Indiana. This included Joseph, his wife Rebecca and their children 1. William Casey b. 1806, KY 2. Moses b. 1807, KY 3. Henry Casey b. 1809, KY 4. James C. b. 1811, KY 5. Joseph b. 1814, KY 6. Elizabeth Frazer b. 1815; 7. Martha b. 1818; 8. Mary C. b. 1823; 9. George b. 1825; 10. Samuel b. 1829 11. Joel b. 1820 (?) were all born in Posey County, Indiana.

While in Posey County, Joseph purchased land in Robb Township. He was the Grantee on land purchased on July 28, 1826 and August 28, 1834 respectively. He sold (Grantor) land to Henry Endicott on December 16, 1848. [5] Both Joseph and Rebecca are buried in the Endicott Cemetery, the family cemetery, along with many immediate members of their family.
